Shamu (Govinda), a farmer, goes to the city to give shape to his dream of making it big in the field of music. He comes in contact with Mutthu Swami (Satish Kaushik), a tabla player. Both are ambitious and join hands in preparation for the music competition, sponsored by TIPS but the fact that they are villagers and not-so-well off, almost puts them out of the competition. Thanks to the timely help provided by Divya (Tabu), TIPS company owner Khurana's (Kader Khan) daughter, Shamu wins the competition and pockets Rs. 50,000/-. Divya falls in love with Shamu. Khurana is impressed by Shamu's dedication and hard work and puts forth his proposal of making Shamu the head of the music department. Shamu happily accepts the offer and is granted permission to start work after a visit to his village.

On the way back to his village, Shamu tells Mutthu Swamy that Pooja (Karishma Kapoor), his music teacher's daughter, is his wife. On his arrival, Shamu gets the shock of his life. The village had been hit by floods and that, the whereabouts of Pooja and her father were unknown. The sorrow is unbearable but Mutthu Swamy consoles Shamu and the two return to the city. Khurana asks Shamu whether he would forget his past and start his life afresh. Eventually, it's wedding bells for Divya and Shamu.

Then, something incredible happens. Shamu sights Pooja, Pooja is alive. Shamu does not know what to do. He has reason to be happy, also reason to feel sad. How will he tackle this predicament? What will he do next? To know the answer, you will have to view SAAJAN CHALE SASURAL.
